Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, muscat is one the most Glorious and beautiful mosques of the world. When you are coming to muscat city this would be the first attraction for you to visit.
In the Year 1992 HM Sultan Qaboos Bin Said aimed that Sultanate Of Oman should have a Grand Mosque and in 1993 it’s design was selected after a competition and Wilayat Bawsher chosen as the site for it’s Construction and building work started in 1995. it was completed in 2001 and  inaugurated on May 4, 2001, it  was a gift to Omani Nation from HM Sultan Qaboos in his 30th year of reign.

Sultan Qaboos Grand mosque covers an area of 416,000 sq.m , the main prayer area, square shaped room can accommodate worshipers up to 6,500 while women prayer area can accommodate up to 750 worshipers , including the other ground areas , the total capacity of Grand Mosque comes to  20,000 worshipers.



Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque’s main central prayer area has a central Dome which rises to the height of 50 Meters from the floor and its Large Swarovski crystal chandelier above the main praying area is 14 meters tall, it is one of the largest chandeliers of the world

This mosque has 4 minarets at corners with a height of 45 Meters ,each while the central 5th minaret is with a Height of 91.5 Meters

The Mosque’s main prayer hall floor is covered with a single piece of Hand woven Persian carpet.
carpet has 1,700,000,000 knots,and it  weighs 21 tonnes it took four years for completion
it's the second world largest hand woven single piece carpet.

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque has a library which contains about 20,000 books with reference to Islamic culture ,humanity , science & Islamic Science . Also a dedicated Hall is there for seminars and meetings which  can accommodate up to  300 people.



Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque visiting Hours :
 Non Muslims can visit mosque everyday from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM ,except FRIDAY.

Visitors must be dressed appropriately, covering whole body (i.e no Shorts , full sleeves shirts etc ) , womens’ head must be covered , and Shoes to be removed before entering the prayer areas.
